Philips has set very aggressive efficiency target for OLED panels of 120lm/W by 2019
Just improving the panel efficiency and the related cost per m2 will ensure the
According with the Digitimes's report, Philips has declared that their goal is to achieve 120lm/W for OLED lighting panels within the next 7 years (by 2019). The current Philips products achieve an efficiency of 45lm/W that are too far away from the the most promising LED technology. There are no details released on whose technology will be used to achieve the 2019 target.
OLED technology will have an important position in the next solid-state lighting market.

FP7 EU project IMOLA starts R&D on large-area, intelligent OLED lighting
The project’s goal is to make large-area OLED-based lighting modules with built-in intelligent light management.
The INTERUNIVERSITAIR MICRO-ELECTRONICA CENTRUM (Imec) and its project partners announced the launch of IMOLA (Intelligent light Management for OLED on foil Applications), a project under the EU’s 7th framework program for ICT (FP7). Total project cost is 5Meuro, and EU funding is 3,4Meuro.
The main objective of the project is the realization of a large-area OLED-based lighting module with built-in intelligent light management. Interesting applications are wall, ceiling and car dome lighting, where the light intensity can be adjusted uniformly or locally according to the time of the day or the position of a person, or even road lighting, where the light can follow a car.
